Kindness #2

This week I did many kind acts, some including making people feel better. A few week ago my family, cousins and I went to Ambleside Park for a picnic. When we got their we were sitting down talking, but for some reason my 3 year old cousin was crying from the start. I tried distracting him but he wouldn’t stop crying, then I realized that he was just bored, so I went and got a ball from my car that was really far away from where we were at and then started playing soccer with him. After doing this act of kindness he was happy and so was I, since I made somebody from really sad to really happy. That’s one of the acts of kindness I did over the weekend.

Kindness #1

These 2 weeks I did many kind things, some including helping others.  My mom had back pain for 2 weeks and so she couldn’t carry heavy things, so I brought everything in for her for 2 weeks now. After doing this, I felt good for helping my mom, specially since she helps me all the time too. I think it made her feel good too, since she didn’t have to struggle bringing the food inside with her back pain. That’s one of the acts of kindness I did over these 2 weeks.

The Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress

“The Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress” written by Christine Baldacchino and illustrated by Isabelle Malenfant is a book created for an age group of 7 – 9 years olds and was first published in 2014. The book is about this boy named Morris who lived with his mom and his dog. Morris liked school and many other things. The thing Morris liked the most was dressing in random stuff. Sometime people made fun of Morris, but Morris pretended he can’t hear the words, but he could. One day a boy came and then ripped the dress off his back. At lunch time no boy would sit beside Morris. Morris was sad at home thinking about how people treated him but his mom always made him feel better. One Sunday, Morris dreamed of being in a safari ride with his mom in space. When he woke up he wanted to share everything he had seen with his mom, and he did. Then one day Morris went with a painting of his dream to school. Morris went to a plane with his friends. And went to space to see elephants, tigers and more animals. Then they came back to earth and had lunch. “Hey but boys don’t wear dresses”. Morris’s friend said. “Well this boy does”. Said Morris. I liked this book because it shows not to listen to bullies and shows that you can do what you want to do, even if others don’t like it. Overall I liked this book and I enjoyed reading it.

2

The book “2” is written and illustrated by Kathryn Otoshi is a book made for an age group of 7-9. “2” is a book about these two numbers that were best friends, until three came. Three said “Where have the odds.” and started playing with 1 but not allowing 2 to play. 2 was sad. Then 4, 6 and 8 came. They made 2 happier and then 2 was thinking of stop being friends with 1, but then 0 came and said why can’t we all just be friends. So then all the numbers played together and guess what, 1 and 2 were still friends. I liked this book because it had a lot of puns and rhymes. I also liked the illustration since it was good and simple. Overall, I think that this book was good and I would enjoy reading it if I was a few years younger.

One

“One” written and illustrated by Kathryn Otoshi is a picture book made for an age group of 7 – 10 year olds. The book is about this blue ball who liked splashing in water. Sometimes he wanted to be another colour but he was fine with blue. When blue was with red, red would always would make fun of them. Every time red said something mean red would grow bigger until all of them were sad they were not red. Then one day this shape came known as 1 and made all the shapes laugh, except red. Red hated how they were all having a good time and said “Stop laughing”. Then all of them turned into number, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 except red. Red came to make fun of blue and said “Red is hot and blue is not”. But then blue replied back and said “ Red can be hot but blue is cool”. Then red become sad and walked away. But then one came and said “We can all count” and turned red into a number. Then red joined the fun and at the end, they all counted. I really liked this story because of its message. The message was that it only takes one person to stop making someone bully and make them all just be friends. Another thing i really liked is the puns. For example at the end. The author wrote “Then they all counted”. Which is obviously referring to the numbers. Overall, this might have been my favourite book in this subject and I enjoyed it a lot.

Ivan The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla

“Ivan The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla” is a book written by Katherine Alice Applegate and illustrated by G. Brian Karas is a book written from a true story which based on an age group of 9-11-year-olds. It’s about this gorilla named Ivan who lived with his family. One day some poachers came and took Ivan and sold him to a mall. Ivan lived in a glass box for about 27 years when people started realizing how wrong it was to keep an animal in box for all his life. People started protested and saying that Ivan shouldn’t be treated like this. Then because of the people Ivan and the other gorillas that were also treated like him were sent to the zoo. I liked the story since it was based on a really life story. I normally like stories that are based on a real life story better since it is something you can share to others. I also liked how instead of made of pictures, their actual pictures of him in the book. The last thing I liked about the book is that it told a story that was emotional. Here is are the reasons why I think it was a good book.

Nerdy Birdy Tweets

“Nerdy Birdy Tweets” written by Aaron Reynolds and illustrated by Matt Davies is a picture book made for an age group of 7-10 year-olds. It’s about this bird who loves playing video games who also has a friend named Vulture who thinks video games are boring. Nerdy Birdy and Vulture are very different but they’re still best friends. Somethings they like doing together is making fun of each other lunch, making silly faces and taking goofy pictures of each other. Then an hour later Nerdy Birdy had 50 new tweetster friends and a year later, Nerdy Birdy had a hundred new tweetster friends. A week later Nerdy Birdy had 500 tweetster friends. Vulture decided to fly away, then Nerdy Birdy noticed. One day Vulture got back on Tweetster and realized something “Why did you tweet this”. Vulture asked. “I thought it was funny”. “It’s embarrassing though”. Said vulture. “Sorry” Nerdy Birdy replied. Then Vulture left him. Then Nerdy Birdy found him one day. Then Nerdy Birdy apologized and they were best friends again. Something I liked from this book is it’s illustration since every picture is an a box. Another thing I liked about the book is it’s message. It says that if you ever mess up, always apologize. Overall I think it was a good book and I would enjoy reading it if I was 8 years old.

What Do You Do With an Idea

“What Do You Do With an Idea” written by Kobi Yamada and illustrated by Mae Besom, is a book made for an age group of 6-9-year-olds. The book is about this kid who thinks of an idea (He saw an egg) then it started following him. But he was scared that people would make fun of his idea. So he kept it to himself. But he thought there was something magical about his idea and it made him feel happy. It wanted food, it wanted to play and wanted attention. Finally, he showed it to everyone and everyone thought it was silly and he believed them, but then he realized that it doesn’t matter what others think. It did many things like making a house. Then one day his idea grow and flew to the sky. One of the things I liked about this book is it’s illustration. If you didn’t realize every time the pages got more colourful. In my opinion illustrations are second most important thing about the picture books since one of the main reason why kids enjoy it. Another reason why I liked this book is because it tells kids to not lesson to what other people think about something they like or dislike which is very important and crustal to know when you’re little and when you grow up. Overall I liked the book and I would enjoy reading it if I was little.

Chopsticks

Chopsticks” written by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Scott Magoon as the illustrator is a book made for an audience of 7 to 10 year-olds. It’s about these two chopsticks who are best friends and never are apart from each other. One day while they were training culinary one of the chopsticks legs broke and had to go to the hospital. But the other chopstick didn’t leave. Then one day the chopstick that had broke his legs told the other chopstick, “Go and leave until I grow back”. and even though the other chopstick didn’t want to leave him the chopstick basically forced him to. Then the chopstick found out that it can do many things by itself and it can in fact be lots of fun. Then after a while the other chopstick grew his leg and they lived together happily ever after. I think that it was a good since the idea is so creative. I also think the illustration was really good which important for a picture book. In conclusion, I liked this book and the last one (Spoon) and I would love to see another sequel to this picture book.

Spoon

                                                                                                          Spoon

“Spoon” written by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrated by Scott Magoon is a book made for 5- 8-year-old kids. The Book is about this spoon who thinks that every other kitchen tool is better than him. For example, he thinks that knives are so much more lucky than him since they can spread things and spoon thinks that forks are also so much more lucky than him since they are you used for everything. At night, spoon’s mom tells him how lucky he is and that he doesn’t even realize it. She tells him how he gets to go head first in ice cream and how he can relax in hot tea. After his mom tells him about how lucky he is, he realizes that spoons are that bad and goes to bed. I think it’s a good book because it is really creative. I also liked the book’s illustrations a lot. One thing that could have made the book better is maybe if it was a bit longer and if spoon talked about more things like salt and vinegar. Overall I think it was a good short story and it was enjoyable to read it.
